On October 2, 2026, Danger Dan's new album "Keine Angst" ("No Fear") will be released. In the fall, he'll take the new songs on a major tour, ending in Vienna. Since the December 20, 2026 date at the Wiener Gasometer has long been completely sold out, there's now big relief: Danger Dan is coming back to the city for an open air show in summer 2027!
And given the current state of the news, this announcement comes at exactly the right moment. Because what we need right now isn't a plea for love or half-baked platitudes about community. It's time for antifascism, radical art, protest, and an unflinching reckoning with the present, the world, and ourselves. But of course with a certain nonchalance, that particular subtle humor. So we need Danger Dan. The piano, the red bomber jacket, above all these singular songs, and no fear.
Somewhat by chance, Danger Dan captured the zeitgeist five years ago with his first piano album and reached people's heads and hearts. The gold-certified DIY album "Das ist alles von der Kunstfreiheit gedeckt" ("It's All Covered by Artistic Freedom") became, against all odds, one of the most successful piano albums of all time. Drawing on the legacy of the political singer-songwriter movement, his own punk and hip-hop upbringing, and storytelling inspired by giants like Randy Newman, Danger Dan invented an entirely new genre back then, one that hadn't existed in this form before.
On "Keine Angst," he now brings his very particular brand of romantic agitprop chanson to full completion. Danger Dan resisted the temptation of grand spectacle, and so he got everything right. This album has no bloated orchestras or choirs, no excess of additional instruments; what appears and what works are: the piano, the voice, these singular lyrics. "Keine Angst" is about nothing less than life and death, about instructions for resisting the fascist threat, but also about love, insurance salesmen, bar fights, the so-called meaning of life, and the question of what remains in the end.
Danger Dan recorded the new album with his brother Panik Panzer, simply at home. It was mixed by Philipp Schwär. A string quartet was recorded in Zurich; that's as elaborate as it got.
His piano playing is now more fluid, more refined, but not overly refined, not virtuosic. With "Keine Angst," Danger Dan has perfected his style without over-perfecting it. "Keine Angst" is Danger Dan through and through; these are the songs we need right now.
