In 2025, we intentionally took a one-year break from the METAStadt Open Airs to evaluate the project. The good news: starting in 2026, METAStadt will remain a firmly established open-air location for at least the next ten years! We’re excited to already share some first details and confirmed dates for the upcoming 2026 season — because a few of the summer highlights at one of Austria’s most beautiful open-air venues are already set:

BIBIZA – a true Viennese from Mariahilf, 1060 – will cross the Danube next June for a special open-air concert in the Donaustadt. A “Verwandtschaftstreffen” ("family reunion) featuring RIAN and JOSH. is also on the agenda. Their joint tour “In einer Tour” brings together hits like “Cordula Grün,” “Hausparty,” and “Schwarzes Schaf,” promising an endless loop of Austrian pop favorites live in METAStadt.

But summer 2026 will be loud, emotional, and unforgettable not only thanks to our local music heroes: MICHAEL PATRICK KELLY made his comeback at the end of October 2025 with his new album “Traces” and has announced a visit to Vienna for July 2026. We’re looking forward to the charismatic singer-songwriter with the unmistakable four-octave voice and his genre-blending mix of pop, rock, and folk. WINCENT WEISS will also be bringing big emotions as part of his upcoming summer tour! And this time, the German pop artist and songwriter’s live show promises to be bigger, more intimate, and more intense than ever before — under the open sky in Vienna, August 2026!

Until 2019, concertgoers were probably less aware of METAStadt in Vienna’s 22nd district. However, this changed permanently and abruptly with the premiere season of METAStadt Open Airs. With the open-air concert series, the METAStadt area became a cultural hotspot in the Austrian capital for the first time in 2019. In the following seasons of 2022 and 2024, the concert series has become more and more established, regularly putting METAStadt at the center of musical attention for a few days during the summer months. And it's not just thousands of happy visitors who have come to appreciate the very special flair, but also renowned national and international artists.

In the premiere season, the Grammy-winning US classic rockers GRETA VAN FLEET and the British indie sensation THE 1975 were joined by the German cult band SCOOTER for a loud and lively start. While there were only three concert evenings in 2019 that first brought METAStadt to the attention of music lovers, there were several more in 2022. In addition to German greats ELEMENT OF CRIME, CRO, SARAH CONNOR and SIDO, international stars such as MICHAEL KIWANUKA, SKUNK ANANSIE, ALT-J and THE KOOKS also shone. In 2024, the festival stayed true to its recipe for success and booked a colorful lineup with highlights for every musical taste in its “festival-like setting.” The lineup included London neo-disco-soul band JUNGLE, KHRUANGBIN from Texas, PARCELS from Down Under, French electro pioneers AIR, Berlin techno grandmaster PAUL KALKBRENNER, “Godmother of Punk” PATTI SMITH, KORN, CYPRESS HILL, CLAWFINGER, GIANT ROOKS and a several more...

METAStadt, a former factory complex with elaborately renovated brick buildings, is located on a large triangular site in the northeast of Vienna. The flair of the more than 100-year-old buildings, combined with modern design – the connection between history, the present, and the future – creates a unique atmosphere. Unique in Vienna and beyond.

And METAStadt in Vienna's 22nd district not only impresses with its architecture and the resulting special charm: it also scores points with its good public transport connections to the city center. It can be easily reached from anywhere in the capital using various modes of transport operated by Wiener Linien.

From the U1 station Kagran or the U2 station Hardeggasse, take tram line 25 to the station “Erzherzog Karl Straße.” If you prefer to walk the last few meters, you can also reach METAStadt in about 15 minutes from the U2 station Stadlau, or in less than 20 minutes from Hardeggasse. The S80 rapid transit train also takes you literally to the front door at regular intervals and is another easy way to reach METAStadt. In a short time, you can get from the main station to the “Erzherzog Karl Straße” station, for example, where you are then only a few meters away from the entrance.

By bike – it's best to find the most direct route yourself and start pedaling. In around 30 minutes, you can easily reach METAStadt from almost anywhere! The exact route from door to door can be easily found at wienerlinien.at or in the WienMobil app. Once you arrive at METAStadt, you can look forward to being spoiled not only musically, but also culinarily. Selected food trucks treat our visitors to high-quality street food – from juicy meat dishes to vegetarian and vegan fare. And of course, there are plenty of sweet treats too.
